Extreme-value analysis of teletraffic data

چکیده
An empirically veri1ed characteristic of the expanding area of Internet is the long tailness of phenomena such as cpu time to complete a job, call holding times, 1les lengths requested, inter-arrival times and so on. Extreme values of the above quantities are liable to cause problems to the e'cient operation of the network and call for e7ective design and management. Extreme-value analysis is an area of statistical analysis particularly concerned with the systematic study of extremes, providing useful insight to 1elds where extreme values are probable to occur and have detrimental e7ects, as is the case of teletra'cs. In this paper, we illustrate the main elements of this analysis and proceed to a detailed application of extreme-value analysis concepts to a speci1c teletra'c data-set. This analysis veri1es, too, the existence of long tails in the data. c © 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Estimation for the Type-II Extreme Value Distribution Based on Progressive Type-II Censoring
In this paper, we discuss the statistical inference on the unknown parameters and reliability function of type-II extreme value (EVII) distribution when the observed data are progressively type-II censored. By applying EM algorithm, we obtain maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs). We also suggest approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLEs), which have explicit expressions. We provide Bayes ...
متن کاملPrioritization method for non-extreme ecient unitsin data envelopment analysis
Super eciency data envelopment analysis(DEA) model can be used in ranking the performanceof ecient decision making units(DMUs). In DEA, non-extreme ecient unitshave a super eciency score one and the existing super eciency DEA models do notprovide a complete ranking about these units. In this paper, we will propose a methodfor ranking the performance of the extreme and non-extreme ecient units.
متن کاملInvestigating Effect of Oil Revenues on Social Capital in Oil Rentier Countries: An Extreme Bounds Analysis Approach (EBA)
The volatility of oil revenues in rentier countries, due to the large share of oil revenue in their economies, affects many variables. Oil revenues can also affect social behavior and culture. Therefore, social capital, as the result of social networks and institutions, can be directly and indirectly affected by oil rents. The review of economic literature suggests that oil revenues could poten...
متن کاملAn integrated model of packetized VBR teletraffic source for cellular NG All-IP wireless networks
We propose the integrated model of a single packetized variable bit rate (VBR) teletraffic source for cellular next generation (NG) All-IP networks. The proposed model integrates two parts: the mobility model and the teletraffic model. The mobility model captures mobility behavior of a single user and is modeled by a Markov chain with finite state space. The teletraffic model captures teletraff...
متن کاملFrequency Analysis of Maximum Daily Rainfall in various Climates of Iran
In this research in order to frequency analysis of maximum daily rainfall in various climates of Iran the data of 40 synoptic rain gauges collected in 40 years period i.e., 1973 to 2012 were used. These stations are located in various climates of Iran according to De Martonne climatic classification. At first, input of data to HYFA package was performed. The mentioned package includes seven...
